The original Golden Mile stretches between Marbella and Puerto Banus and is a very glitzy and showy area. The New Golden Mile is far less flashy but nonetheless very pleasant. You will find the Mile westwards out of San Pedro and towards Estepona. Unlike its neighbouring towns it has kept some of its Spanish charm and is far less developed. In fact you can actually see the Andalusian countryside here!
One of the biggest attractions of the area is the Selwo Safari park. This park is home to thousands of different species of animals, from monkeys to elephants which roam freely over the 100 hectares of parkland.
There are plenty of great golf courses in the region too. And it's hard to find one that is not set in fantastic Andalusian scenery.
The local towns like Estepona and San Pedro are great fun too. They are quieter than say Marbella but are still great for nights out and restaurants. There are many attractions to the New Golden Mile that other local resorts do not have.
It is an up and coming area that still retains the peacefulness needed in a holiday destination.
