Velez-Malaga 
The best way to get to Vélez-Málaga by road is by taking the Autovía del Mediterráneo in the Motril direction and turning off as signposted. But it is also possible to reach this huge municipality by sea and by air. La Caleta de Vélez has a large fishing port with a section for pleasure craft, while the Royal Málaga Aeroclub uses an airfield at El Trapiche.
Vélez’s climate is mild all year round, with an average of 23 ºC in winter and 26 ºC in the summer months. This has attracted people from many parts of Europe to come to settle here.
Since it covers such a huge surface area, 156 square kilometres, the municipality is dotted with towns and villages. The largest of these is the town of Vélez-Málaga itself, just a few kilometres inland, while the resort of Torre del Mar is on the coast, as is the port of La Caleta de Vélez. All three are well linked by road: the Autovía del Mediterráneo, the various older roads and the Avenida Rey Juan Carlos I, which links the town centre with Torre del Mar.
Those heading inland and preferring Vélez-Málaga properties will appreciate the village houses, whitewashed town houses and the peace of the surrounding countryside. Whether you are looking for beach or town, marina or countryside, Torre del Mar and Vélez-Málaga have a huge variety to offer the property buyer.
The market town of Vélez-Málaga is approximately 5 km inland from Torre del Mar and is surrounded by subtropical vegetation. Capital of La Axarquía, Vélez-Málaga is the centre of an agricultural region known for its strawberries and vineyards, which produce the muscatel grapes from which the famous Málaga wines are made.
Vélez-Málaga, under the name of Menoba, was important in Roman times, and again, as Ballix-Malaca, when under Moorish occupation. It has always had an important role in subduing an historically turbulent region. In 1487, Ferdinand conquered the town and the Christian flag was raised on the castle's battlements as the Moors were ejected. There are also several remains of Phoenician cemeteries and tombs which hint at a still older history.
Many leisure activities in both Torre del Mar and La Caleta de Vélez centre on the sea. There are also numerous swimming pools and public sports installations. For lovers of rural tourism inland accommodation abounds. c is also a good base for exploring the rest of the Axarquía area.
The recent construction of a green space in Vélez-Málaga called Parque Central has an extension of 60,000 square metres and is considered as the big green lung of the town. Playgrounds for children, paths for walking, big trees and benches, lake and a bar are some of the things you can enjoy here.
The town of Vélez-Málaga has all kind of services as hospital, buses, cinemas, shops, commercial center, aquapark, and the recent construction of a tram to connect this town with the neighbour Torre del Mar on the coast.
The surrounding areas are a beautiful scenery with mountains, green avocado plantations and a lot of country fincas.
